Extension of Status
Duration of Status
All I-20 and DS-2019 documents have a “Duration of Status” that allows legal enrollment and stay within the United States. To find this, locate the “Duration of Status” on your I-20 or DS-2019 document. NWACC awards immigration documents for a maximum of 2 years from start. It is important to know the dates on your immigration documents.
Extension of Status
If your studies will exceed your duration of status on your I-20 or DS-2019 then an Extension of Status Form with an Academic Advisors Approval must be submitted at least 30 days prior to expiration. It is advised to begin this process as early as 60 days before expiration. Please schedule an appointment with the International Programs Center and bring the following documents:
- Completed Extension of Status form
- Updated banking information
- Completed Financial Awareness form
NOTE: Extension of Status may be applied for more than once, but an subsequent applications will need to have evidence of circumstances that prevented completion which were beyond the students control.
