Students Looking at Paper and Books on a Table

In NWACC's Spanish language courses, you'll learn about the Spanish language and culture. Spanish is spoken by more than 30 million people in the U.S., has the second highest number of native speakers worldwide, and is one of the official languages of the United Nations. Speaking Spanish can give you a big advantage in the work place as well.

Spanish Placement Information

If you'd like to be placed into Elementary II or Intermediate language classes without the proper pre-requisites, you can do so in one of the following ways:

  • Take the placement exam at NWACC's Testing Center located on the third floor of the Becky Paneitz Student Center. International language faculty will then evaluate the exam and advise you on where you place in the program. The exam is free and takes approximately thirty minutes.

  • Take the Spanish CLEP test at NWACC's Testing Center or other testing site. This reading and listening test takes approximately nine minutes and costs $90. If you score a minimum of fifty (50), you are eligible to receive six hours of Spanish college credit on your transcript. If you score a sixty-six (66), you are eligible to receive twelve hours of Spanish college credit on your transcript. However, it is important to note that not all transfer institutions accept CLEP credit for foreign languages.
