Join us for NWACC's Arts & Culture+ Hispanic Heritage & Excellence events this Sept. and Oct.!

NWACC's Arts & Culture+ Hispanic Heritage & Excellence events celebrate the contributions of Hispanic and Latin American people in art, society and business by offering people of all ages opportunities to learn about their contributions to and their influence on the community, nation and world. These events are a part of the college's Arts & Culture+ event series

American Mosaic: The Latino American Experience

About: Take a guided tour of American Mosaic: The Latino American Experience, a library search tool that documents the rich heritage and current culture of Mexicans, Puerto Ricans, Guatemalans, Cubans, Dominicans, Colombians, Ecuadorians and other Hispanic groups in the United States through primary and secondary sources. Your librarian tour guide will give you time to explore your areas of interest. This research database is available to all state residents through funding provided by the Arkansas Department of Education. 

¡Andemos! Ride with Arkansas Latinas en Bici!

About: Gear up for a paved bike ride with Arkansas Latinas en Bici and explore the NWACC neighborhood! All riders are welcome and NWACC assumes no liability on behalf of participants. Participants will sign a waiver to ride. Latinas en Bici is a cycle group in Bentonville focused on welcoming and educating Latina women.  

¡Baila con En Fuego! – Latin Dance Lesson

About: Experience a sampling of Latin dance styles like salsa, bachata and merengue. You can attend either lesson or both. Wear comfy clothes and get ready to move. En Fuego Dance & Fitness provides private lessons and events in a variety of Latin dance styles, as well as judgement-free DanceFit classes. 

LatinX Theatre Project (LXTP)
REMEDIOS VOL. II, A Short Film and Talk Back

About: Join us for one of the premier screenings of “Remedios Vol. II”, the newest addition to LXTP's Remedios Series. LXTP creates community-based original work that uplifts and advocates for social change through writing, performance, music and creative media. This short film centers themes of healing and growth using poetry, music and scene work to help give insight on the pursuit of healing. After the screening, engage with members of LatinX Theatre Project about the experience of creating the video project. 

Advisory: This film contains strong language and themes related to addiction, depression and grief. 

Book Discussion at Más Libritos Book Club
Featuring the book, "For Brown Girls with Sharp Edges and Tender Hearts: A Love Letter to Women of Color" by Prisca Dorcas Mojica Rodríguez

About: Más Libritos Bookstore will host a discussion of "For Brown Girls with Sharp Edges and Tender Hearts: A Love Letter to Women of Color" by Prisca Dorcas Mojica Rodríguez. Drawing from her own personal experiences as a brown woman, the book is a series of essays that deals with sexism, racism and classism. The book club is open to the public. It will take place in the shared space of the bookstore and Bites & Bowls, with light refreshments provided. To participate, please fill out the registration form.

Books are available for purchase from the bookstore; please indicate in the registration form if you'd like to purchase a copy. Pick up locations will be at NWACC Library in Bentonville or Más Libritos in Springdale. NWACC Library has a copy to borrow. Find the Spanish language edition at the Rogers Public Library.

Más Libritos Bookstore is a Latina-owned, intersectional feminist bookstore centering the stories of Black, Indigenous and People of Color communities.
