On January 25th, Northwest Arkansas Community College (NWACC) placed its last beam on the steel structure of the new Washington County facility located west of Arvest Ballpark on Watkins Avenue, marking another milestone for the project.

The college broke ground on the new site only eight months earlier. “We got a lot done in a short period of time, but we have a long way to go,” said Sam Hollis, president of Milestone Construction, at the building’s 20-acre site. “We’re not going to let our foot off the gas pedal.”

The last beam has been topped out, the first floor slab has been poured, the second floor slab is almost complete, and the exterior stone will begin to be laid in February.

The college plans to consolidate its smaller Washington County, Farmington and Jones Center locations into the new 38,000-square-foot facility. It is scheduled to be completed in October, and open to students for the spring 2020 semester.

The new building will allow the college to better meet the education and training needs of the region, as 36 percent of the college’s 7,700 students for the 2017-18 school year lived in Washington County.

The facility will offer courses in general education, nursing, health information management, and emergency medical response and hold offices for NWACC’s High School Relations which oversees the early college experience program.

“The Topping Out Ceremony was an exciting event for NWACC, particularly for Washington County. With this new building, the college now has a footprint in the area and can focus on serving the northwest Arkansas community by providing another convenient location to receive a higher education. NWACC’s commitment, along with many other community members, led to this moment,” said NWACC Associate Vice President, Washington County Programs Brenda Green.
