Honors Program Opportunities

As an Honors student, you'll be able to take advantage of a variety of opportunities, such as conferences, scholarships and more.

The Great Plains Honors Council Conference (GPHCC) is held each Spring at a college in Texas, Arkansas, or Oklahoma. At the conference, select students from college honors programs share the results of a research project through oral and poster presentations.

This is an opportunity to meet with other honors students and to gain experience in presenting research (an opportunity not open to most community college students). It also helps you stand out when applying to a four-year university or other research programs.

The Honors Student Association (HSA) promotes community and curiosity on the NWACC campus though leadership and scholarship opportunities for its members and the creation of opportunities for the college community at large.

Members have the opportunity to run for officer positions and guide the HSA’s agenda for the year. Students must attend at least two meetings per semester to be considered members.

The NWACC Honors Program has an articulation agreement with the Honors Program at Missouri Southern State University in Joplin, Missouri, for a near seamless transition into its program.

NWACC's Honors Program is part of Honors Arkansas, an alliance of honors educators across Arkansas collectively working to enhance the scholarly, professional and social experiences of high-achieving students.

Because of this partnership, NWACC honors students have the opportunity to work with honors students from around the state on special projects, including opportunities to work with local and state legislators, to research and suggest campus initiatives, and to be part of a one or three credit forum course offered through the University of Arkansas each May.

This alliance also helps smooth the transition for students hoping to transfer to honors programs and colleges throughout the state of Arkansas.
