Academic Standing

As an NWACC student, you are expected to make satisfactory progress in all courses taken and are subject to the Academic Standing Policy.

Your academic standing is determined at the end of each fall and spring semester on the basis of credit hours completed and cumulative and/or semester grade point average. Your academic standing determines re-enrollment status and establishes conditions associated with re-enrollment or denial of re-enrollment.

Levels of Academic Standing

A student whose cumulative grade point average is a 2.0 or above is considered to be in good academic standing at NWACC

The first semester a student's cumulative grade point average falls below a 2.0, the student will be placed on academic watch

A student whose cumulative grade point average falls below 2.0 for two consecutive semesters will be placed on academic probation warning

A student on academic probation warning who does not meet the minimum 2.0 semester grade point average will be suspended and will not be able to enroll for one major semester (fall or spring).  Additionally, students must achieve a minimum 2.0 term GPA while on probation following suspension.  Failure to achieve this GPA will lead to a one year suspension.

Once placed on academic suspension, students may be eligible to appeal to the Dean of Students if one or more of the following occurred:

  • Illness or injury to the student or immediate family member
  • Involuntary work schedule change or transfer
  • Death of a member of the immediate family of the student
  • Called to active  military duty
  • Personal and/or family crisis

In order to return from Academic Suspension, students must complete an online learning module designed to help returning students be more successful.  If you have been placed on academic suspension and are interested in returning to NWACC, please contact us at success@nwacc.edu to gain access to the module.  Once the online module has been completed, you will be required to meet with a member of the Student Success office to discuss your return to college.  Individuals returning from academic suspension must also reapply to the college.
