In NWACC's microbiology courses, you'll study microorganisms, which are unicellular or cell-cluster organisms that are too small to be visible with the naked eye. This includes bacteria, archaea, viruses, fungi, prions, protozoa and algae, collectively known as microbes. 

By studying microbiology, you can learn how microscopic organisms play a role in maintaining life on earth, how to exploit the activities of microbes to benefit humans, and how microorganisms can breakdown sewage and other toxic wastes into safe matter. 

Microbiology courses can be transferred to a four-year institution and satisfy general education requirements. Connect with your academic advisor for more details. 

By pursuing an education in microbiology, you may find employment opportunities as a biotechnologist, clinical laboratory scientist, food scientist and technologist, immunologist, mycologist, parasitologist and others.
